Initially recognized through an internship with the Little Wing Corner Gallery in 2014 and mural work for Form Western Australia’s Public project, James Giddy completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University in 2016 and has since, expanded his practice. His murals can be found throughout Western Australia, in New South Wales, Queensland as well as internationally in India, America, South Africa and Indonesia.
Heavily inspired by the natural environment and the French motif of en plein air painting, James Giddy revolves his practice around themes concerning the unknown as well as environmental conservation, generally drawing inspiration from and referencing site specific subject matter.
Through the medium of painting, Giddy is able to push and pull emphasis, abstracting and glorifying spaces, encouraging the viewer to reconsider a subject and look beyond a single point of focus. Giddy’s use of bold, painterly brushstrokes compliment the natural subjects and bring attention to his chosen medium. The ambiguous landscapes and grounds often found within his murals of wildlife, allow the viewer to bring his or her own contextual references and associations to the work, often providing a platform to re-consider thoughts on the everyday and their immediate surroundings.
Artworks are available for purchase and on display until May 15.
