Being that summer is right around the corner (yay), it is time for a warm-weather shift in our daily skincare routines. Geared towards UV-protection and post-sun hydration, the new season requires a beauty arsenal loaded with restorative summer-ready ingredients.
Here is B Naturally You’s summer skincare ingredients checklist.
While we’re well-versed in the glow-worthy benefits of vitamin C, vitamin B is another supercharged skin enhancer. Whilst working as a natural barrier function, helping to repair and defend the skin against sun damage, vitamin B also promotes collagen production, smoothing lines and wrinkles to give the skin a supple, dewy and more youthful appearance.
You heard! Our favourite summer ingredient, SPF which stands for Sun Protection Factor, measures the amount of UVB radiation transmitted to the skin after sunscreen has been applied, compared to the amount of UVB transmitted to the skin without sunscreen. UVA rays play a major part in photodamage and skin ageing whilst UVB rays are the chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn. Adding SPF is the essential last step in your skincare regimen. TBH, even in winter, you should be wearing a sunscreen daily.
Once the warm weather hits, you’ll see me spending a lot more time outdoors, exposing my skin to different environmental aggressors such as dirt, cigarette smoke and air pollution. The use of sunscreen alone doesn’t provide enough protection against these aggressors. Introducing antioxidants into our regime can provide the protection from our environment that sunscreens can’t, reducing the effects of premature ageing. Not only does this ingredient come in a wide range of serums and creams it also comes in drink form.
The trick to applying sunscreen is to not stop, and as much as we try to remember, sometimes it’s just too easy to forget. You apply once and spend the rest of the day lazing around in the sun, take one look in the mirror an realise you’re as red as a bloody tomato. It happens! Using DNA Recovery ingredients such as Vitamin E and berry extracts which will help soothe and repair your delicate skin, as well as hyaluronic acid, which aims to get your skin back into hydration mode.
